I am David Ellis, Creative Director and founder of VisualMatter.

My background is in global photography and film, working at the highest levels of music, sport, fashion and celebrity culture. That foundation shaped how I think about authorship, clarity and judgement, and why much of my work now focuses on building creative systems that reduce complexity and protect quality at scale.

I work as an embedded Creative Director inside organisations that are growing, expanding, or becoming more complex. My role is to bring clarity where things are fragmenting, set standards where they are missing, and help leadership teams decide what matters, what does not, and where to focus.

I have done this at global brand level and at live cultural scale. While working with adidas across global football, I contributed to the development and implementation of brand bible principles that were later embedded across multiple sports. That work established a shared visual language and creative standard that could travel globally without dilution.

In parallel, I have applied the same approach inside entertainment and live platforms, helping shape how organisations such as High Scream operate creatively across Ushuaïa Ibiza, Hï Ibiza and international markets, and designing scalable visual and content systems for the Esports World Cup.

A defining moment was overseeing a 27-stage global rollout for adidas x Real Madrid. That project established the principles that still guide my work today. Clear authorship. Shared standards. Creative systems that allow ideas to move fast without losing meaning.

I assemble teams around the problem, not the structure. I bring in best-in-class specialists only where they add value, keeping leadership tight and budgets focused on impact rather than overhead. This approach allows organisations to scale output, speed and ambition without scaling complexity.

I actively implement new technologies where they improve control, speed and reliability. Used properly, technology reduces variance, increases confidence and allows creative leadership to operate at scale.

Much of my work sits at the intersection of music, sport and fashion, spaces where credibility is earned and mistakes are visible. I have applied the same discipline in regulated environments including the NHS, Network Rail and HSBC, where clarity and judgement matter as much as creativity.
